Abstract:

Does a rapidly changing world coupled with a dynamic industry make the history of that industry obsolete? Can explorers learn anything about the future by observing and analyzing long-term trends that affect exploration? There are no absolute answers to these two questions. World conditions may be changing so rapidly that historic trends are rendered useless or at least incapable of extention into the future. On the other hand we throw out much useful data if we ignore history; and we run the risk of repeating past mistakes.

Let's examine nine trends in our industry to see if they can truly give clues to the future.
